Summary
This report explores how, in this rapidly changing environment characterised by multiple uncertainties, the finance function continues to evolve. It explores how the role of finance is broadening, and the new skills and competencies required as a result.
Commercial Finance Director, Retail, Singapore Our interactions with members, students, and academics and our analysis of evidence gathered during interviews and roundtables reveal details of the expanded role of finance, which is stepping up to lead on digital and sustainable transformations. By effectively adopting new practices like ESG and agile and hybrid working, while also driving changes in organisational culture and ways of working and learning, finance teams are leading the way to a better and more responsible way of working and living. The finance role is more demanding than it has ever been, but it also offers an invaluable opportunity to contribute to organisations and society. That can only be enacted, however, if finance professionals upskill and collaborate to drive value and positive organisational transformation.Figure 3 illustrates key words used in our conversations by both participants and interviewers.
